Mets prefer Oswalt over Buehrle

The White Sox may offer Mark Buehrle to the Mets but, if they want Carlos Gomez or Lastings Milledge, GM Omar Minaya would not listen for too long. If the Astros ever dangled Roy Oswalt the Mets would definitely include Gomez and Milledge in the discussions.

As much as I'm overly conservative and I love holding on to prospects...this is a move that we would undoubtedly have to make.

Report Offensive CommentI don't think this would ever happen. Our pitching is pretty short as it is.

Report Offensive CommentChaz I'd tend to agree with you...but frankly I dont think its going to matter. If the Astros are out of it you have to believe that they would consider trading some pieces, and some salary, for relief. I wouldnt do it if I were them...however I can see it happening.
The Mets are struggling right now. Theres no doubt. And the premium on good players costs too much in prospects. However adding Oswalt and Pedro near the deadline and switching our rotation around make the team absolutely fearsome. I just hope its not too late by then judging by our June swoon.

Report Offensive CommentThis rumor sounds good for the Mets, not so good for the Stros'. Are those prospects worth Oswalt? From what I have seen of them I am not so sure.

Report Offensive CommentHe just signed a brand new contract last season with a full no trade clause. Roy is not going anywhere because he is one of the few bright spots we do have.

Report Offensive CommentContracts are meant to be broken.
All Starz, Gomez is an amazing talent, and hes faster than Reyes actually. But the reason hes not too impressive is because he's 20 years old. He's still pretty raw. And the only reason he is here is because our outfield was a warzone. Fernando Martinez is the same age I believe, and hes also too young to judge.
I would second what Duy said but remember that we were one phone call away from getting Oswalt...and I wouldnt rule it out, despite the new deal.

Report Offensive CommentIf I was Oswalt I would want to go to a contender.

Report Offensive CommentI say send Heilman and a young guy for Buehrle and then Gomez OR Milledge and a young arm for Oswalt. Get them both. Move Sosa and Ollie to the pen.

Report Offensive CommentI would give up Mill (I wanna be a rap star) edge and Pelfry for Oswalt in a heartbeat. But Gomez I want to hang on too. He is in the Majors and Mills is in the minors. Alittle telling no....
AF_Lucky1 | 06/21/07, 11:11 AM
Report Offensive CommentMilledge wasnt called up because hes hurt Lucky, otherwise he'd be here and not Gomez. He's basically been out all season.
JG, Sosa in the bullpen maybe, but Ollie stays in the rotation. He tends to walk guys, and that can be smoothed over when in the rotation. But bringing him in for spot duty is a bad move. Nobody wants Heilman now because his value is pretty low. He was all the rage last year.
Moondizzle...Flying Cows. | 06/21/07, 11:20 AM
Report Offensive CommentMoon, Then lets trade Ollie since he now has some trade value...but whatever it is lets bring them both in...since Tommy and El Duque and even Pedro are all about to retire soon and in El Duque's case maybe get Social Security checks soon...we need to start building that rotation up again...
JGJintsMetsFan76 | 06/21/07, 11:31 AM
Report Offensive CommentOswalt is only making 15 million a year, plus, there's 4.5 years left on the contract. That's plenty of time to build the team into a winner. I don't see Oswalt going anywhere for any less than a superstar, who the Mets aren't offering. Oswalt is also one of the Astros owner's favorites. He gave up free agency to sign the extension. I'd put money on it that he will retire as an Astros player.

Report Offensive CommentKeep Ollie, he has good stuff, just has a hard time finding the strike zone from time to time. This appears to be short stretches and only hurs him against patient teams.
AllStarz | 06/21/07, 12:07 PM
Report Offensive CommentThat would be great for the Mets. He would be perfect for that team. Don't see it happening. The Astros just gave him the bank, so why trade him then? Who else do they have as an ace? Jason Jennings? Don't think so.
