Boo - you can't just shrug off Sheff's comments with a "nobody's perfect" line. When people level charges of racism at people or at organizations, it's a very serious implication. And when those charges are levelled irresponsibly - as they most certainly are in Sheffield's - it's not just about having a different view of "reality". I'm no Yankee fan, but Joe Torre certainly doesn't deserve such criticism, and neither does MLB for supposedly favoring Latinos over African Americans - a truly absurd hypothesis.

Sheffield should be fined for such statements - if a white player were to say something like that about a black manager he most certainly would.

On paper, the Red Sox match up well with anyone in the league and should be favorites to win it all. But in the end, it all comes down to who's hot in October (see: last year's Cardinals).
