What would you do if it was your wife/girlfriend - I'm sure you wouldn't just 'brush it off'. Have you no respect for women? The league had to react, or else Phaneuf, etc. would have that night. And, it's one thing to say this on the ice in a scrum, but to purposely go out of his way - he actively approached the media - is a complete other scenerio.

I'm not saying it's the right punishment - who really knows what is the 'right' punishment for something like this, the way the NHL slaps players on the wrist for far worse. But it's time the league (all of them) held players up to the standard that us 'regular folks' are held to - you make a comment like that about your colleague's wife/girlfriend at work, let alone in the media or in a company newsletter say, and you're probably fired based on most company's codes of conduct. QUIT MAKING EXCUSES FOR THESE GROWN UP MEN WHO DON'T KNOW HOW TO CONDUCT THEMSELVES!
Posted Thursday December 04, 2008, About: Why Raptors fired Mitchell
Well, it's the right move. But anybody that thinks that a coaching change will elevate this team to the level of the Celtics, Magic, Pistons and Cavs has not been watching this team play. They have some major problems:

Each player on this team is a defensive liability - Calderon isn't quick enough to keep opposing points out of the paint; O'Neal is a good defender - when he's healthy, and sorry Raps fans, you won't see that O'Neal this year; Bosh is an average defender, but at least getting better; Kapono is a liability on D; Parker is a good defender, but not good enough to be up to task of guarding the top offensive player on the other team; Bargnani can't defend anyone.

Offensively, they're a jump-shooting team of players who cannot create their own shots - not a single player on this team can create with the exception of Bosh.

The big problem is Colangelo - he started building this team in the image of the Phoenix Suns... and we all know what a success they were - a couple trips to the conference finals, and now with no hope of a title, going into rebuilding mode as soon as they realize this. Now he's stuck with a team that can't run, but can't play slow-down either... they have no identity.

The roster needs an overhaul - with what they have, they won't get out of the first round.

There is something seriously wrong here - I'm not defending Avery, or saying that he doesn't have coming whatever happens to him. But, I fail to understand how the league can punish a guy this severely for 'sloppy seconds' - punished within hours with an indefinite suspension, while we routinely see players hit from behind into the glass - often with complete intention - and the league hesitates and then hands out these slap-on-the-wrist penalties. I'm fine with giving Avery 3 games, 5 games, 25 games, whatever. But shouldn't on-ice plays that can result in serious injury (and one of these days, a death, perish the thought) carry a much harsher reaction from the league than an inappropriate comment? The league is missing the boat once again.

Amare will no doubt leave the Suns in 2010 - there will be nothing left there besides him, and it's obvious that he's no fan of Porter. What the Suns should do now is acknowledge this, and try to rid themselves of Shaq's contract - if they packaged him with a desirable asset - Nash - and sent the two to a team in need of leadership and experience - PORTLAND - maybe they could accomplish that, and get some youth - say Shaq and Nash for LaFrentz's expiring contract, Frye and Fernandez. Nash would be a great leader for that team, and Shaq would be a great mentor for Oden for a couple of years. And Portland would have an asset in Przybilla to deal for another piece.
Posted Saturday November 29, 2008, About: Pistons accept Iverson's apology
Maybe you have a point that scheduling a practice under these circumstances wasn't the right thing to do, but first of all, while Curry may be inexperienced as a coach, he played the game for years and I'm sure took knew the players' perspective and took it into account; as for Dumars, he's a consumate professional - when he played, and as a GM - he's no fool. Remember, AI reports to them, not the other way around.

The bottom line is that Iverson is the fool - whether he liked it or not, it is his responsibility to be at practice. I sure hope you're not using what might have been poor judgement by the coach/gm as an excuse for AI. Enough with making excuses for these spoiled, entitled athletes.
Posted Saturday November 29, 2008, About: Why Barkley ripped LeBron
I commend LBJ for not giving us the 'status quo, politically correct' line. I'm sick of anecdotes and rehearsed lines. If Cavs fans, or his teammates for that matter, can't handle the reality of the situation, tough sxxt.
Posted Wednesday November 19, 2008, About: Yanks, Red Sox to battle for Burnett
As a Jays fan, I know he's gone, and I'm fine with that. What makes this better is that either the Yanks or BSox will end up with him (inter-divison Tampa would be okay too). He'll sign a 4-year deal worth about $70M, spend the first 2-3 years on and off the DL, and then have a stellar contract year again... don't get me wrong - he's ultra talented, but this is his pattern, and it's a safer bet than not that it'll happen again. He's not worth the risk and I'm glad someone else is taking it.

Posted Wednesday November 05, 2008, About: Celtics interested in McDyess
This is all a moot point. He has already stated that he is only interested in playing with the Pistons, or retiring. Whether he retracts that statement or not is something I can't answer, but as it currently sits, AM in Celtic Green is a dream.
Posted Monday November 03, 2008, About: Is Vick's NFL future in Oakland?
It's not about comparing jobs - it's about comparing standards for society. And we can compare our jobs to those of a pro athlete - some people simply choose not to, and figure because they are famous, they should be given a break. Please, why can't we hold athletes up to a higher standard once they've done the deed? There seems to always be an over-the-top outcry initially, but then we allow ourselves to forget the horrible act in the first place. He's a criminal. Period. The NFL SHOULD NOT WANT HIM BACK!
Posted Friday October 31, 2008, About: D'Antoni admits cursing Knicks fans
Personal? I don't know Marbury. I've watched him play basketball. I don't dislike him. You're making this way too personal. You talk about his talents - how about discussing his accomplishments... might be a bit more difficult... And by the way, Crawford is leaps and bounds ahead of him talent wise now. And Robinson is more productive too.
Posted Friday October 31, 2008, About: D'Antoni admits cursing Knicks fans
A top-level baller? He's not even in the top-2 points talent-wise on the Knicks anymore. Where would you place him if you were ranking the top 100 NBA players this year - I'd wager he wouldn't be on many lists (which precludes him from even a mid-tier baller). Would you draft him if you were starting a team from scratch... maybe you would, but it'd only be because of your blind devotion. He just doesn't have it anymore - the mental fortitude was never there, and many more talented players have long since eclipsed him.
Posted Thursday October 30, 2008, About: Cavaliers targeting Bosh
Vince never lost his skills - he gave up on them. He became soft. The Toronto fans turned against him because he couldn't man-up, and then he started pouting and wanted to be dealt. We were happy to send him back 'home', where he belonged. As far as Bosh goes, he won't be leaving Toronto anytime soon - he plays hard - like we in Canada expect. We'll always reward that with our loyalty. And he'll reward it in kind.
Posted Thursday October 30, 2008, About: Cavaliers targeting Bosh
Are you kidding? Bosh is a franchise player - Marion a role player. Never happen. You really must not know ball to even suggest it.
Posted Friday October 24, 2008, About: Will Kobe still be happy in '09?
Kobe and professional/class act go together like Barkley and soft-spoken, or Jordan and loser. How soon we forget "trade me", Colorado and his Shaq feud... Not to say I wouldn't want him playing on my team, but there are about 8 players I'd take before him...

Laughable. What's next, George W marching in peace rallies and driving a hybrid?
Posted Tuesday October 07, 2008, About: Burnett won't be on market long
Somebody is going to overpay for AJ - may as well be the Yankees. He'll then be a .500 pitcher, until his next contract year.
Posted Thursday October 02, 2008, About: Gordon backs down to Bulls
Gordon will be the reason the Bulls struggle this year again. He and Deng will have a level of discomfort, even if it is under the surface. That's not going to be good for chemistry. More so though, now that this season is really an 'audition' for Gordon, look for him to be way more selfish... again, not going to be good for chemistry...
