Ash Marshall

My name is Ashley Marshall and I am a news and features writer for the weekly English newspaper, the Harrogate Advertiser. I have been at my current job for the last two years after completing a BA degree in journalism from the University of Central Lancashire and SUNY Plattsburgh, NY. My fiance has accepted a job at the Manhattan DA's office and I plan to move to New York City next spring. I am a fan of most US sports as well as a lot of European sports, including football (soccer), tennis and motor racing. I am a New York Mets fan, and I also follow the Knicks, Buffalo Sabres and Buffalo Bills. Most of my FanNation blog will be surrounding baseball, particularly statistics and trends. I love using figures to interpret and explain events. Mike Piazza was one of the main reasons I started watching baseball regularly, so he would be near the top of my list of favourite players. But I also love how exciting Jose Reyes is. I also enjoy watching Matt Holliday and Ryan Zimmerman and I have a mancrush on Baltimore's Nick Markakis. My favorite ballpark food has to be the half smoked dogs with chilli, mustard and cheese at Nationals Park. Highly recommended.

His Mendoza-esque performances of late have seen him hitting below his weight (220lbs) for the last 20 games, including a 3/22 skid over his last six, prompting fans to question whether 2008 is the start of the slugger’s decline. The answer is no. The drop-off started in 2007, and there is a very good chance that his days as even a mid-tier 1B are numbered. In fact, he's most probably the biggest disappointment this season ahead of…

I would like to think I'm above the traditional bandwagon-jumping type, but I can't help but be fascinated by the Reds prospect-turned-saviour Jay Bruce. In a team surrounded by touted youngsters Joey Votto, Edison Volquez and Johnny Cueto, Bruce has quickly made a name for himself through his first eight games with his quick bat, smooth swing and excellent, if not unusual, plate discipline. The rookie, who ended his first week in the show with his third consecutive long ball, has already driven in seven baserunners and walked on six occassions, despite striking out just twice. Bruce…
