Euro '08 Wrap-up - Time for some final housecleaning before we close the books on a sterling Euro '08:MVP/All Tournament Team - So, Xavi is the tourney's Most Valuable Player? Pardon my skepticism, but I don't think so. He played well, but he was subbed out in three of his five games (he was among many regulars that did not play in the game against Greece), and most importantly, the two times Spain was in trouble (against Sweden and Italy) he was sitting on the bench over the final 30 minutes and extra time! Euro'08 - Three weeks of great soccer and high drama have finally reached their conclusion, and the last team standing is Spain, 1-0 victors over Germany in yesterday's final. While certainly a good game, it never really approached the level I was expecting, primarily because Germany, with the exception of about a 10 minute stretch of the second half, never found a way into the game. A generally poor effort by the Deutschlanders was part of it (awful passing, a lack of rythym, too much hit-and-hope, and a general lack of leadership were among the problems), but equally…

Euro '08 - The final is upon us, and it is providing yet more drama before it even starts. Saturday German team officials revealed MF Ballack is "doubtful" for the final due to a strained calf suffered in training, and that he had also missed Friday's workout to receive treatment. While this is certainly not good news for Germany, it's not a disaster either.
