For some reason the Big East has been reluctant to add football teams.  The non-football members are resistent - and they still have a strong grip on the mostly "basketball" conference.  But I think the conference will very soon have to re-think that position in order to avoid being replaced at the BCS table by C-USA or the MWC.  Ideally the Big East should add one or two high caliber new teams - like Penn St or even Notre Dame.  But ND is not interested in playing in a football conference for financial reasons, and Penn St only joined the Big Ten because years…

My intention was not to stir up the debate over which is the best conference, but to examine which teams tend to schedule with courage and which do not.  Looking so far only at teams from the BCS conferences.  But, since there seems to be a strong underlying competative need for comparisons - here are the overall non-conference strengths of schedule for each BCS conference.PAC 10 ....... 3.87ACC ........... 3.25BIG EAST .....3.11BIG 10 .........2.92SEC .............2.74BIG 12..........2.72 The PAC 10 scheduling courage is impressive - far ahead of the others.  I am not a…

 Much has been made about strength of schedule.  It has been used in arguments to minimize a team's achievments - as in - "they win a lot, but they don't play anybody."  It has also been used to build up a team that may not have achieved so much - as in - "they are only 7-5 because they play in the SEC - in the ACC or Big East they'd be 10-2"  Teams become well known for their scheduling tendencies.  Like Kansas State who rose to prominence by scheduling all non-conference gimmes,  or Fresno State who has developed the reputation of…
