50 Year fan, when you asked if I had ever know if Shanahan had mentored a young Qb before I kinda thought you were joking. Then I realized you weren't...I just wanted to leave you with this, it's a part of Steve Young's Hall of Fame Enshrinement speach: (Oh yeah I forgot to say, He Mentored Steve Young in his first years as a 49er as offensive coordinator)
"I have to say today in the audience I have never been more productive as a player then when Mike Shanahan and when Gary Kubiak were my coach. Mike, thanks for coming today, on your off day in training camp. That tells ya a little something. He and I were equally intense and he drove me beyond my own standards. He believed that I could be an MVP quarterback. One of the best game day play callers I have ever seen. His famous quote to me before Super Bowl XIX ???Steve, don???t worry we???re going to crush these guys.??? Ya, well, we did. And he knew"
If DE Phillip Merling and DE Derrick Harvey are off of the Board, then the Vikings will select a RT. At that point they will be looking at OT Jeff Otah (if he isnt already gone, OT/OG Branden Albert, or RT Gosder Cherilus. It all depends what DE is on the board.
I would really like to see the Vikings get this guy.
The Problem with the Chiefs Defense is that they have NO DT's that can do anything. They need a Big time DT that can disrupt along the line of scrimmage. If the Chiefs draft QB Matt Ryan or Trade DE Jared Allen, they will set themselves back 5 years and by that time LJ will be retired.
If I were the Chiefs and I was going to trade Jared Allen (Which I wouldn't) I would ask for a 2nd round pick and LT Bryant McKinnie. That would seem like a fair trade. The Chiefs need a LT......and they could have another selection in the 2nd round to get a guy like DE Quinton Groves. Then they would still pick at 5 and get QB Matt Ryan or DT Sedrick Ellis. Now that would make a whole lot of sense.
